>The Fear of God

>

“Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. – 2nd Corinthians 7:1

We don’t like the word, “fear”. How can we fear God and love him, too? Think of the fear of God like the fear of law.

I am not afraid of the police, I have friends who are police and love them dearly, but I treat them all with the utmost respect realizing they have the authority and ability to make my life very difficult.

Some see the uniform and miss the person; some do that with God, too. Jesus shows the person behind God’s law and He is good, kind, and worthy of our love.

>Created By Jesus Christ

>

“God, … created all things by Jesus Christ:” – Ephesians 3:9

Essential it is to realize God, the almighty, created all things by Jesus Christ.

Paul wasn’t the only one teaching this, the apostle John wrote:

“In the beginning was the Word … through him all things were made … though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him … the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” John 1 (NIV)

Just as the physical body is our method of interacting in this world and each other so Jesus is, and always has been, God’s way of interaction with his Universe.

Paul clarifies that it was not just “Christ” but “Jesus Christ” who is one and the same.

Think about that the next time someone tries to tell you Jesus was just a prophet, teacher, or good man.

Quenching Bitterness

Joseph said … Don’t be afraid … You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish … the saving of many lives. – Genesis 50:19b-20

Actions from others turn sweet kind youth into cynical bitter revengeful, old before their time, people.

There is a way to avoid that – Joseph, in the Old Testament, did it by employing three (3) life principles:

  1. Living in the fear of God;
  2. Recognizing God used even the very wrong and painful deeds of others to work a blessing;
  3. Choosing to live for God’s purposes instead of one’s own
