Unpredictability

And Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD, when they offered strange fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai”– Numbers 3:4

A little blurb in the book of Numbers reminded Israel (and the readers centuries later) about two priests who decided to do offerings their way. They did not survive.

These accounts remind us that a relationship with God is only on his terms. In Christ we see an intimacy that earlier generations only dreamed about but, still, there’s a certain unpredictability about him.

He will not be manipulated or controlled. A relationship with him, if we want it, is still only on his terms.

Fortunately for us his terms are good! We give him all we have and he gives us all he has — what a deal!

Heaven on Either Side

“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” — John 17:3

Many think eternal life begins when we get to heaven, not so!

Frederick Buechner, American writer and theologian, accurately puts it this way:

Frederick Buechner

“You do not love God and live for him so you will go to Heaven. Whichever side of the grave you happen to be talking about, to love God and live for him is heaven” — Frederick Buechner1

Who Will Pray, Now?

Sons, the report that I hear the people of the Lord spreading isn’t good! If one person sins against another, God will take care of him. However, when a person sins against the Lord, who will pray for him?” — 1st Samuel 2:24-25 (God’s Word Translation)

We have human judges for deciding matters between two people but when the offended party is God, himself, there is no one highter! It’s just not smart to make the God of the universe angry at you!

Once he was mad at you there was no where else to go … until Christ! Jesus loved us enough to satisfy justice on our behalf and bring us into God’s favor.

when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son — Romans 5:10

Who will pray for us?

He is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf. — Hebrews 7:25 (New Living News Translation)

Jesus!

Sound Bite: Jesus is praying for me!
Prayer: Jesus, you have done what no judge on earth could do, you reconciled me to the God of the Universe! Thank you for continuing to pray for me before the throne! I need it. Amen!
