Shortly after giving my life to Christ I attended a university which was not kind to the Bible. Their religious classes taught the Bible was full of myth and error, its stories to be peeled back like an onion to get to the truth. Those holding onto a belief the Bible as God’s Word were ridiculed and viewed as severely flawed.

But I had a godly pastor, Reverend Creppon, who gave me some sage advice. “Fritz”, he told me one particularly difficult day, “hold onto the Bible, it will always get you out of any trouble it gets you into!”

I never forgot that or him and the Bible has always has done just what he said.

Thin Places

But God, … quickened us together with Christ, … and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:…” — Ephesians 2:4-7

“But ye are come unto … the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn … and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, and to Jesus …” — Hebrews 12:22-24

“Thin Places” are where the boundary between heaven and earth is especially thin. The Jerusalem temple is considered by some to be a “thin place”. So are various other shrines. People seek these thin places to get in touch with the divine.

But the Bible says in Christ we have been raised with Jesus and are seated with him now!

Seems to me I don’t have to go to a thin place, I live in one!

Shake it off!

Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand…But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects. The people expected him to swell up or suddenly fall dead; but after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god. — Acts 28:3-6

The Apostle, Paul, writer of much of our New Testament, had a tough few years.

Unjustly imprisoned, shipwrecked, stranded on a remote island He was then bitten by a snake while trying to get warm. Everyone expected him to die.

His response — he just shook it off!

That’s what we have to do when things get difficult — shake it off.
