How to handle Rejection

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies – Psalm 23:5

Rejected applications, separation and/or divorce, those dissatisfied no matter what, sarcastic teens letting you know you are out of touch, a snub here, a lack of coöperation there, even downright hostility — hey, it’s a fact of life.

Even in the midst of God’s banquet-like blessing the Psalmist pointedly adds, “my enemies all around!

Why can’t we all get along?! There could be lots of reasons or no reason, it’s life. While the Bible doesn’t say why, it does says what to do about it.

Don’t pay people back with evil for the evil they do to you. Focus your thoughts on those things that are considered noble. As much as it is possible, live in peace with everyone. Don’t take revenge, dear friends. Instead, let God’s anger take care of it. After all, Scripture says, “I alone have the right to take revenge. I will pay back, says the Lord.” — Romans 12:17-19 (God’s Word Translation)

  • Be as friendly as you can — work on your people skills
  • Don’t retaliate, turn those feelings over to God (he judges what’s right better than you)
  • Choose to not let it bother you, in fact, choose to happily move on with Christ ready to help even your enemies find the life changing power of Jesus

Leadership Training

“Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?” — 1st Corinthians 6:2

Our future is NOT sitting around heaven on a cloud eating bon-bons and strumming on harps into eternity — we’ll have a job to do!

The apostle Paul wrote that the saints were destined for leadership positions in Christ’s coming kingdom. The apostle John, too, wrote of the vision he saw of Christ’s followers living and reigning with Jesus on the earth for a thousand years. This isn’t a new idea, the Old Testament is filled with references to “the saints'” (not the football team) leadership role. See Psalm 149 as an example. The Old Testament term, “Saints”, according to Paul, actually refers to even the most insignificant feeble follower of Christ.

No good company puts someone into leadership without training, so why would God? And where are we going to get that training but in our jobs and doing what we are doing now. It’s not just busy work until Christ returns, I’m learning a lot about people and life. Not all of it is pleasant but all of it is a learning experience!

I believe this is exactly why God doesn’t just take us to heaven the moment we give ourselves to Christ.

We enter God’s Leadership Training program.

Advantages of being a Relative

Tax men came to Peter and asked, “Does your teacher pay taxes?”

Peter said, “Of course.” But as soon as they were in the house, Jesus confronted him. “Simon, what do you think? When a king levies taxes, who pays—his children or his subjects?” He answered, “His subjects.”

Jesus said, “Then the children get off free, right?

Jesus made a special point to Peter that the kings of this world don’t charge their own children taxes. There are certain advantages to being a relative of the one in power.

Same with God — His Children live in His kingdom for free, too.

Why point that out? Because receiving Christ changes a person from being one of God’s “subjects/servant” to one of God’s “children”

So then, you are no longer a slave but a child. And since you are his child, God will give you all that he has for his children. – Galatians 4:7 (Good News Bible)

If you are Christ’s come to God as his child not his servant; it will change your prayer life!
