Blaise Pascal (1623-1662)

Be still, and know that I am God — Psalm 46:10

Blaise Pascal, the famous philosopher and mathematician, had an interesting idea why people go to war and/or pursue various diversions which cause heartache and troubles — It’s because they can’t sit quietly alone in their rooms without regret.

“I have discovered that all the unhappiness of men arises from one single fact, that they cannot stay quietly in their own chamber…there is one very real reason, namely, the natural poverty of our feeble and mortal condition, so miserable that nothing can comfort us when we think of it closely.” — Pascal, Blaise (1623-1662). Pascal’s Pensées (p. 40). Public Domain Books. Kindle Edition.

Something to quietly think about.

My children have a dad who loves them, and always will.

Recognizing Value

Just look at it—we’re called children of God! That’s who we really are…when Christ is openly revealed, we’ll see him—and in seeing him, become like him. All of us who look forward to his Coming stay ready, with the glistening purity of Jesus’ life as a model for our own. — 1st John 3:1-3 (The Message Bible)

I learned something about recognizing value when I gave away company stock. I had received it as a youth because I was family and had no idea how much it was worth until I gave it away for free.

Afterwards, the realization of what I lost hit me but it was too late. Something similar can happen in a church or to those in a Christian home who grow up with eternal opportunity freely given by Jesus’ sacrifice.

There is a future for those who remain faithful to Christ. We need to keep that future in focus to stay pure and faithful.
