Sons, the report that I hear the people of the Lord spreading isn’t good! If one person sins against another, God will take care of him. However, when a person sins against the Lord, who will pray for him?” — 1st Samuel 2:24-25 (God’s Word Translation)

We have human judges for deciding matters between two people but when the offended party is God, himself, there is no one highter! It’s just not smart to make the God of the universe angry at you!

Once he was mad at you there was no where else to go … until Christ! Jesus loved us enough to satisfy justice on our behalf and bring us into God’s favor.

when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son — Romans 5:10

Who will pray for us?

He is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf. — Hebrews 7:25 (New Living News Translation)

Jesus!

Sound Bite: Jesus is praying for me!
Prayer: Jesus, you have done what no judge on earth could do, you reconciled me to the God of the Universe! Thank you for continuing to pray for me before the throne! I need it. Amen!

[God] said, “Number the congregation of the People of Israel by clans and families … The tribe of Reuben numbered 46,500 … Simeon 59,300 … Gad 45,650 … Judah 74,600 … Issachar 54,400 … Zebulun 57,400 … Ephraim 40,500 …. Manasseh 32,200 … Benjamin 35,400 …Dan 62,700 … Asher 41,500 … Naphtali 53,400.

[Then God] said, “The People of Israel are to set up camp circling the Tent of Meeting and facing it. Each company is to camp under its distinctive tribal flag. To the east toward the sunrise are the companies of the camp of Judah, Issachar next to them, Zebulun next to them. South are the companies of the camp of Reuben, Simeon, Gad. To the west Ephraim, Manasseh, Benjamin. To the north Dan, Asher, and Naphtali” — Numbers 1:1 – 2:34

Someone pointed out that from above, with all the people numbered and camped around God’s tent as directed, it all formed a giant cross pointing East.

Do the math and see for yourself!

The cross has always been God’s plan for humanity’s redemption!

“Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot … was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you” – 1st Peter 1:18b-20

At a local scooter club I heard a safety saying, “Dress for the fall, not the ride”. I took it to advise being prepared for difficulties not just the enjoyment. Today my daily Bible reading surfaced a scripture with a similar message but in a larger context.

Two are better than one … if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up … and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. — Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

My culture values independence and, certainly, we all are sometimes forced to stand alone in difficulty but all too often we do so unnecessarily and to our peril.

We dress our lives, so to speak, for the ride and don’t consider the fall. This is why it is essential to pick (and be) a good spouse, one with godly character who will follow through with the vow to love for better and for worse. This is why it is important to actively seek a good church and a good pastor, people who can say the hard things without offending. This is why it is essential to be and actively seek friends with godly character, who can give the right kind of encouragement. All three (spouse, community, friends) together should be sought for strength like a three strand cord, holding should any single strand fail. Going it alone easily ends in disaster!

Anyone can follow Christ when living is easy. Don’t wait for a storm, take the easy times to prepare for when it gets hard — “Dress for the fall not the ride.”
